Examples of volunteer opportunities include:

- Washing and Sorting Vegetables
- Greenhouse Work
- Website Assistance
- Planting and Harvesting
- Promoting Educational Opportunities
- Mulching
- Promoting Public Awareness
- Cultivating and Weeding
- Picnic Planning
- Flower and Herb Care
- Serve on the Core Group

To schedule volunteer opportunities, shareholders can contact the farm at 812-963-7690.

Educational Programs

Home Grown Kids

We have had several groups visit Seton Harvest to learn more about sustainable agriculture. Seton Harvest is a working model for local groups with an interest in gardening to visit, learn and understand the concepts of sustainable agriculture as compared to the industrial agriculture that surrounds us.

I feel it is important to educate children today about the natural cycle of things and how their food is grown, because most kids, and some adults, think food only comes from the grocery store. Educating people about food today will encourage them, and their families, to be better stewards of the land and environment of tomorrow.

One example is to have your children plant a few seeds of their choosing in a pot, and take care of them. In doing this, they will learn a sense of responsibility and accomplishment, and also build self-esteem. So I encourage you to take the time to do a simple project and watch them grow.

St. Vincent's Day Care Center

Our mission of providing educational opportunities around sustainable agriculture to area youth is put into action yearly at St. Vincent Day Care Center in Evansville. An educational garden was developed with the help and support of the St. Vincent staff and teachers. The garden provides an educational resource for the children who attend the Day Care.

Local University and College Visits

We also offer educational opportunities for local college students. We have hosted a number of classes and student clubs. These included several biology classes from the University of Southern Indiana and an ethno botany class from the University of Evansville. The college students and professors found the farm to be a unique learning environment.

Give for Others Program

As by design, we are providing shares for a few of the local shelters and food pantries in the community but we would like to do more for these organizations providing food for the poor - but we need your help.

If you are interested in providing (through a tax deductible donation) a share or partial share to be given to an organization feeding the poor, please contact the Farm Manager and mention the Give for Others Program.

We plan to continue developing relationships with local colleges and other schools in our area. Furthermore, we will welcome opportunities to share our farming methods with all who share our interest in sustainable agriculture. Seton Harvest is a great place to learn and grow!

Compost Needed

We need compost material! If you have surplus leaves, sawdust, straw, old flowers, “untreated” grass clippings or pre-prepared food waste (i.e.: potato peelings, broccoli and lettuce trimmings, etc.), we invite you to bring these items to the farm for incorporation into the compost pile. Also, we are constantly looking into sources for manure. If you know of a farm that has surplus manure available (i.e.: cow, horse, goat or sheep), please contact the farm at 812-963-7690.
